Ready to Launch Your Dental Assistant Career in Florida?
Florida offers exciting opportunities for aspiring dental assistants!
No National Certification Required
Unlike some states, Florida doesn’t require the Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential to work as a dental assistant. This requirement was eliminated in May 2009 — making Florida one of the most accessible markets for aspiring assistants.
Formal Training for Expanded Functions
To perform expanded duties in Florida, you must receive formal training in those specific procedures. There are two options:
- Complete a CODA-Accredited Program: Graduate from a dental, dental hygiene, or dental assisting program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) that incorporates expanded function training within its curriculum.
- Complete a Florida Board-Approved Program: Alternatively, complete a Florida Board-approved Expanded Duties Formal Training Program.
This streamlined process allows you to focus on acquiring the skills necessary for a rewarding dental assistant career in Florida!
